The Generation of 27 was a group of authors that emerged into the Spanish cultural scene around the year 1927, when the tercentenary of the baroque poet Luis de Gongora’s death was celebrated. The authors used this occasion to restore the poetry Gongora composed at the final epoch of his life that was discredited in the 18th century. In the surrealist group stands out especially the Nobel prized Vicente Aleixandre, certainly the most original artist of the group. According to Cernuda, “His verse doesn’t resemble anything”. He has become the most influential poet of the generation during the last half of the 20th century, along with Luis Cernuda himself. There were, however, other poets of the Generation of 27 whose aesthetic influence was largely determined by the surrealist impact: Rafael Alberti and Federico Garcia Lorca.
